In a certain population of fruit flies, 640 out of 1000 have red eyes, while the remainder have sepia eyes. The sepia eye trait

is recessive to red eyes. If the population is in H-W equilibrium, how many individuals would you expect to be homozygous for red eye color?

Answer:

The correct answer is 160.

Explanation:

Based on the given question, the total number of fruit flies is 1000, of which red eye flies are 640. Thus, the number of sepia eye flies will be 1000-640 = 360.

On the basis of the Hardy-Weinberg equation, p+q = 1, in which p is the rate of recurrence of one allele, that is, dominant and q is the rate of recurrence of the other allele, that is, recessive.

q^2 for the population is 360/1000 = 0.36, q = 0.6.

Therefore, p = 1-q = 1-0.6 = 0.4.

The frequency of homozygous dominant allele is denoted by p^2 = 0.16.

Hence, the number of homozygous dominant for red eye color would be 16% of 1000 which will be equal to 160.

Answer:

160 individuals or 16% of population

Explanation:

If the population is in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium then the population will follow the mathematical expression of the HW equilibrium which are:

1. Genotypic frequencies- P²+q²+2pq=1

2. Allele frequency- p+q=1

In the given question, it is stated that the sepia eye is recessive while red eyes are dominant.

Now, population of red eyes=640

the population of sepia eyes will be- 1000- 640= 360

therefore, q² will be - 360/1000= 0.36

calculating q-  = 0.6

q= 0.6

According to p+q=1

p will be= 1- 0.6=0.4

p=0.4

Now to find homozygous of red eye or p² = 0.4 x 0.4

p²= 0.16

This means 16% of total population is homozygous for red color

or 160 individual of 1000 are homozygous for red color.

What threatens the existence of a chimpanzee species?
Sophie [7]

Answer:

The primary threats to chimpanzees are habitat destruction, hunting, and disease. The increasing human population is encroaching ever deeper into even protected areas of chimpanzee habitats, and large scale logging is now a major threat to the forest primates of Africa.

Answer:

Natural selection, mutation, and genetic drift are random events.

Explanation:

A mechanism of evolution in which the frequencies of alleles of a population change with generations because of sampling error is known as genetic drift. It takes place in all the populations of non-infinite size, however, its influences are strongest in small populations.

Hope this helps :)

An enzyme was isolated from digestive juices taken from the small intestine. an experiment was set up to test the ability of the
Sergio039 [100]
1. Our results showed that test tube B contained end products of protein digestion, meaning that the isolated enzyme has the ability to break down protein. The end products of protein digestion include small polypeptides, dipeptides, and amino acids. In general, test tube B will contain the building blocks of proteins, which are the amino acids.

2. The two test tubes were placed in a hot water bath at 37oC. This is because the enzyme studied is a human enzyme and it works best at the human body temperature, which is approximately 37oC.
Enzymes are biological catalysts, which means that they accelerate chemical reactions. As a result, an enzyme's activity is greatly affected by temperature. Every enzyme, depending on each function and origin, has a specific range of ideal temperature conditions. If the temperature rises above the maximum accepted, then the enzyme denatures and loses its structure.

3. If the enzyme studied was added in a tube containing starch instead of proteins, then nothing would happen. This is because the enzymes are highly specialized and have very specific actions. It has been proved that this enzyme's activity involves the digestion of proteins.
Starch is a polysaccharide produced by plants, this means that starch is a carbohydrate. Given that starch is not a protein, it will not be digested by the enzyme. An enzyme digesting proteins, will not have any effect on carbohydrates.

4. The smaller molecules which are the result of the digestion happening in the digestive system are absorbed by the human body. More specifically, the products of protein digestion are absorbed by the intestine and then transported into the bloodstream. From the blood, they are then absorbed by other tissues.
After they are absorbed, they are used to build muscles or other compounds which can produce energy.
