Granite is an igneous rock which consists of grains. It can be white, pink or gray in colour depending on its mineralogy. It is made up of feldspar and quartz with little mica, amphiboles and other minerals. It is buried beneath kilometers of rock and sediment in order to produce enough heat to melt rock during its formation. It is used to make paving stone, curbing, stair treads, building veneer, floor tiles and so on and also the continental crust is made largely of it.
By the time he died 13 years later, Alexander had built an empire that stretched from Greece all the way to India. That brief but thorough empire-building campaign changed the world: It spread Greek ideas and culture from the Eastern Mediterranean to Asia.
