One possible effect of drinking during pregnancy is Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. 
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is when the baby has physical or mental damage. This is from exposure to alcohol during the baby's time in the womb. The risk may grow if the mother is a heavy drinker. During the first three months, the risk of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is high. A small head, below average weight and height, heart problems, etc. are symptoms of  Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
