Segregation happens when society views one race as better than another. The initial purpose of segregation was to keep the "inferior" race away from the "better" race. The race that was seen as "inferior" was not treated well. This led to discrimination.

The issue with segregation is that it often causes inequality.

Segregation results in neighborhoods with high poverty. This is associated with fewer banks investing in these areas. This causes lower home values and poor job opportunities.

Having diversity in a jury panel is exceptionally important. Even in trials that do not directly involve racial issues, defendants benefit from having a diverse jury. For the public to have faith in the justice system, they need to feel that their points of view are represented in the juries that decide cases.
