So 15 minus the flat fee is 11.25 divided by .85 is 13.23 km rounded 13km

You can solve system by elimination:

Multiply the 1st equation by -4 and keep the 2nd equation the same.

−4(m+n=40) → -4m -4n= -160

                       4m+2n=108 add them up

-2n = -52 divide both sides by -2

n = 26

plug it back in to solve for m

m + n = 40 →m + 26 =40 subtract 26 to both sides

m = 14
