`stackrel(harr)(AB)` and `stackrel(harr)(BC)` form a right angle at point B. If A = (-3, -1) and B = (4, 4), what is the equatio

n of `stackrel(harr)(BC)`

step 1

find the slope AB

A = (-3, -1) and B = (4, 4)

m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)------> m=(4+1)/(4+3)------> m=5/7

step 2

find the slope mBC

we know that

if two lines are perpendicular

then

the product of their slopes is equal to -1

so

mAB*mBC=-1-------> mBC=-1/mAB-----> -1/(5/7)-----> mBC=-7/5

step 3

with mBC and the point B = (4, 4) find the equation of the line BC

y-y1=m*(x-x1)-----> y-4=(-7/5)*(x-4)-----> y=-(7/5)*x+(28/5)+4---> y=-(7/5)*x+(48/5)

y=-1.4*x+9.6

therefore

the answer is

the equation of the line BC is

y=-1.4*x+9.6

Water flows through a pipe of diameter 4cms with a velocity of
MissTica

Answer:

  1.28 m

Step-by-step explanation:

The speed at which water rises in the tank is proportional to the speed of the water in the pipe and inversely proportional to the ratio of the tank area to the pipe area.

The ratio of tank area to pipe area is the square of the ratio of their diameters:

  ((150 cm)/(4 cm))² = 1406.25

Then the rate of rise of water in the tank is ...

  (0.5 m/s)/(1406.25)

After 1 hour = 3600 seconds, the height of the water will be ...

  rise = (time)(rate of rise)

  (3600 s)(0.5 m/s)/1406.25 = 1.28 m

Ryan can tar a roof in 15 hours. Stefan can tar the same roof in 11 hours. Find how long it would take them if they worked toget
Triss [41]

Answer:13 hours

Step-by-step explanation: remember you are averaging so you add the two numbers and divide by the number of numbers, 2. So, 15+11=26, 16 divided by 2=13

Tom had 260 dollars to spend on 8 books. After buying them he had 12 dollars. How many much did each book cost?
fgiga [73]
You will subtract 12 from 260 and get 248 then you will divide 248 by 8 and get 31 dollars spent per book.

The random variable x is the number of occurrences of an event over an interval of ten minutes. It can be assumed that the proba
padilas [110]

Answer:

A Poisson distribution, with λ=5.3

P(x) = \frac{\lambda^{x} *e^{-\lambda}}{x!}

Step-by-step explanation:

For this type of random variables, a Poisson distribution is the most adecuate.

If the number of occurrences in ten minutes is 5.3, we can define the parameter λ=5.3 and the probability function as:

P(x) = \frac{\lambda^{x} *e^{-\lambda}}{x!} =\frac{5.3^{x} *e^{-5.3}}{x!} \approx\frac{0.005*5.3^{x}}{x!}

PLZ HELP! 20 POINTS!
agasfer [191]

Answer:

a) The error is that, the initial value is n=1 NOT n=3

b) The sum is a_n=a_{n+1}+5=192

c)The explicit formula is  a_n=5n+3

The recursive formula is a_n=a_{n+1}+5,

Step-by-step explanation:

The given arithmetic series is  8 + 13 + ... + 43.

The first term is a_1=8, the  common difference is d=13-8=5

The nth term is given by:

a_n=a_1+d(n-1)

We substitute the values to get:

a_n=8+5(n-1)\\a_n=8+5n-5\\\\a_n=3+5n

To find how many terms are in the sequence we solve the equation:

3+5n=43\\\implies 5n=43-3\\5n=40\\n=8

The summation notation is  \sum_{n=1}^8(3+5n)

The error the student made is in the initial value.

It should be n=1 NOT n=3

b) The sum of the arithmetic series is calculated using:

S_n=\frac{n}{2}(a+l)

We substitute o get:

S_8=\frac{8}{2}(5+43)

S_8=4(48)

S_8=192

c) The explicit formula we already calculated in a), which is a_n=3+5n

The recursive formula is given as:

a_n=a_{n+1}+d

We substitute d=5 to get:

a_n=a_{n+1}+5
