While the principles had a moral fervour attached to them, the diplomacy and practicality of these principles were highly debated. The success of these policies depended on an organization that could enforce them. Wilson’s policies gave more importance to the USA’s moral grounds on joining the war, instead of realizing nationalist ambitions. The Fourteen Points emerged at a time when the Progressive movement in the United States reached its heights and aimed for global co-operation in diplomacy and economic agreements.
