Hepatitis A is irritation and swelling also knows as inflammation of the liver. It is caused by hepatitis A virus. It rarely causes a serious damage to the liver or death; it does not result to a chronic liver disease as well. Hepatitis A virus is prevalent in areas where people earn little or no income or areas where the less privilege resides with lack of proper sanitation (low of socioeconomic status).

Since these set of people are faced with poverty and poor environmental conditions, Hepatitis A spreads via contaminated foods, waters or from close person to person contact. Children mostly transmit this viral disease.

To prevent catching or spreading the virus, there are certain steps that must be taken.

Handwashing

To prevent or reduce the risk of catching or spreading Hepatitis A virus, it is advisable that, you thoroughly wash your hand after using the rest room.

Also ensure you wash your hand when you come in contact with an infected person’s stool, other bodily fluids.

Hepatitis A can spread easily in places where people are in close contact like day care centers, to control outbreaks, ensure you wash hands very well whenever you change diapers either before and after, before you serve foods and after the use of the toilet.

Avoid food and water that is not clean.

Hepatitis A can be controlled by avoiding unclean food and water. However, certain precautions that should be taken includes

 • Don’t patronize street food vendors
