When the first Muslim community were prosecuted in Makkah because of their faith, prophet Muhammad allowed his people to migrate to Abyssinia, a Christian land(Eritrea/Ethiopia now). He called Abyssinia “The land of the just Christian king where no man is wronged.” When Islam was properly explained to King Najashi, he famously stated that “the difference between Muslims and Christians was like a line in the sand.” Although the fact that Muslims in Ethiopia represent about two-thirds of the population, but the official religion of the state is Christianity, which is supported by the 1993 census, which pointed out that the number of Muslims in Abyssinia reached 27 million of the total population of 45 million.

Hope it helps!
