The loyalists fought for the British but also the Iroquois Confederacy which were a tribe of Native Americans. The British promised them freedom after they won and that they would allow them to stay in their land peacefully

They organized secret societies and raiding parties.  The most notorious was the Ku Klux Klan.  These societies often rode in groups and raid settlements where former slaves lived.
