Augustine's starting point for his account of the relationship between men and women is the story of the creation and Fall found in Genesis 2-3.

In Genesis 2: 18 God says “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” From this Augustine concludes that Eve is made to be Adam's helper. He further deduces that her primary role must be procreation as (in his view) a male companion would be better for every other task. Better for physical labour (stronger) better for conversation (more in common).

'If it were not the case that the woman was created to be man’s helper specifically for the production of children, then why would she have been created as a “helper”? Was it so that she might work the land with him? No . . . a male would have made a better assistant. One can also posit that the reason for her creation as a helper had to do with the companionship she could provide for the man . . . . Yet for company and conversation, how much more agreeable it is for two male friends to dwell together than for a man and a woman! . . .

Anit [1.1K]

Answer:

d. bound by the contract, under a theory of agency by estoppel

Explanation:

Marisol is bound by the contract because during the negotiation Charlie and Jamal, he created an appearance that will make Jamal believe that Charlie was his agent, he did not counter the claim that the bicycle was up for sale. Under the theory of agency by estoppel, a contract exist and is binding on a principal when he or she creates the appearance of an agency even though it actually does not exist. The action of Marisol created the impression that Charlie is his agent even though he actually is not so the contract is binding on him to sell the bicycle to Jamal.

Sonja [21]

Answer:

C). Can enforce James's pledge on the grounds of promissory estoppel based on a charitable subscription.

Explanation:

A charitable subscription is demonstrated as a promise in which a party promises to make a donation to an educational, charitable, or religious institution.

As per the question, Helping Hands Inc. possesses the ability to 'enforce James's pledge on the grounds of promissory estoppel based on a charitable description'. Conventionally, such promises were not enforceable as they are not backed by appropriate legal consideration. But, the modern view allows adding exceptions in the general rule through application of the doctrine of promissory estoppel. Thus, Helping Hands is now allowed to enforce its promise on the basis of promissory estoppel. Hence, option C is the correct answer.
