To do this, find the equation that would connect the two points...

First, find the slope between the two points
slope = m = (y1 - y2) / (x1 - x2) = (5 - 10) / (1 - 2) = -5/ -1 = 5

Since the slope between the two points is 5 and not 7, the points will no be on the line.

P.S. Hope this helps :)

We have here a function y=f(x)=7x-2
We can check (1,5), and x=1, y=5 and we have 5=7x1-2, that is right.
But (2,10) we can see x=2, y=10 and 10=7x2-2 or 10=12, that is wrong.

Identify the independent and dependent variables. Then use the information to determine how many gallons of gas are left after t
lesya692 [45]

Answer:

Independent: miles travelled

Dependent: gallons of gas

Gas remaining after 68 miles: 7.2 gallons

Step-by-step explanation:

Looking at the table, it appears that after every 17 miles of driving, 1 gallon of gas is used.

 • 68 miles would be the next 17 miles after driving 51 miles
 • this means another gallon of gas would be used, so 8.2 - 1 = 7.2 gallons left

The dependent variable is the variable that depends on that of another

 • In this case, the dependent variable is the gallons of gas, because in order for the car to drive, it needs gas

The independent variable is the variable that does not depend on that of another

 • In this case, the independent variable is the miles travelled

I'm solving for x, but I'm not confident with my work. I feel like x should be smaller than the other side (121) but I got a res
sergejj [24]

You have the ratios set up but you need to cross multiply everything:

(5x + 10) x 11 = 121 x 10

55x + 110 = 1210

Subtract 110 from both sides:

55x = 1100

Divide both sides by 55:

X = 1100 / 55

X = 20
