What is the equation of line parallel to y = 3x + 5 and through the point (1, 7)?

Many students are more comfortable using <span>slope intercept form </span>but this kind of problem is actually much easier , using point slope form (which is right below this work)

Step 1

Substitute the slope from original line (3 in this case) into the equation of the line <span>y = 3x + b</span>

Step 2

Substitute the given point (1,7) into the x and y values 7 = 3(1) + b

Step 3

Solve for b (the y-intercept)

Step 4

Substitute this value for 'b' in the slope intercept form equation y = 3x + 4

Method 2: Using Post Slope Form

What is the equation of line parallel to y = 3x + 5 and through the point (1, 7)?

If you're comfortable with point slope form , this is the way to go! Just look how little work there is to do! In fact, all that you have to do is substitute twice!

Step 1

Substitute the slope from original line (3 in this case) into the point slope equation <span>y − y1 = m(x − x1)
y − y1 = 3(x − x1)</span>

Step 2

Substitute the given point (1,7) into the x1 and y1 values <span>y − 7= 3(x − 1)</span>

<span>Practice Problems</span>Problem 1 - Method 1

What is the equation of line parallel to y = 4x + 3 and through the point (5,9)?

What is the quotient? startfraction 2 m 4 over 8 endfraction divided by startfraction m 2 over 6 endfraction startfraction 24 ov
PIT_PIT [208]

The quotient of the equation is 1.5.

<h3>What is the quotient?</h3>

The quotient is the number that is generated when we perform division operations on two numbers. Basically, it is the result of the division method.

The given equation is;

\rm \dfrac{2m+4}{8}\div \dfrac{m+2}{6}

By fraction, a quotient is a number obtained by dividing the dividend by the divisor which is a simple division of numerator and denominator.

The solution of the equation is determined in the following steps given below.

=\rm \dfrac{2m+4}{8}\div \dfrac{m+2}{6}\\\\=\rm \dfrac{2m+4}{8}\times \dfrac{6}{m+2}\\\\=\rm \dfrac{2(m+2)}{8}\times \dfrac{6}{m+2}\\\\=\dfrac{2\times 6}{8}\\\\=\dfrac{12}{8}\\\\=1.5

Hence, the quotient of the equation is 1.5.

The two box-and-whisker plots below show the scores on a math exam for two classes. What do the interquartile ranges tell you ab
Neko [114]
The interquartile range is a measure that indicates the extent to which the central 50% of values within the data set are dispersed.
The interquartile range: Upper quartile - Lower quartile
As we can see in the box-and-whisker plots:
Class A:  89-66 = 23
Class B: 94-79 = 15
This shows that the spread in the scores of class A within the central 50% of values is higher than the spread of the scores of the class B.
