1. The United States government had hardly any military resources with which to fight a major war.
2. The British ranked as the world's greatest maritime power, but the U.S. Navy did not possess a single ship of the line, as battleships of the day were called. The Americans had only eight frigates and eight smaller seaworthy warships.

What is one reason behind Pope Urban II's decision to launch the First Crusade?
Rufina [12.5K]
Pope Urban ll made the decision to launch the first crusade in 1095. He achieved this by giving a public speech in which he accused the Muslims of many atrocities against the Christians who were living in Jerusalem. One reason, why the Pope decided to launch the first crusade was that, the Byzanthine Emperor has written him a letter asking him for help against the Muslims. The Pope may have made this decision too in order to increase his papacy influence.

What was the enlightenment how was it instrumental in american government?
Mrrafil [7]
Simply the Age of Enlightenment inspired the American Revolution that sparked the creation of the American Government.

European politics, philosophy, science and communications were radically reoriented during the course of the “long 18th century” (1685-1815) as part of a movement referred to by its participants as the Age of Reason, or simply the Enlightenment.

Enlightenment philosophers John Locke, Charles Montesquieu, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau all developed theories of government in which some or even all the people would govern. These thinkers had a profound effect on the American and French revolutions and the democratic governments that they produced.

The ideas of the French Enlightenment philosophes strongly influenced the American revolutionaries. French intellectuals met in salons like this one to exchange ideas and define their ideals such as liberty, equality, and justice.
