The storyteller of "Family" by Grace Paley utilizes a few descriptive words to depict different relatives, and says a portion of the descriptors adhered to her, while others, "discovering me American and smooth disappeared."
This last line proposes that Americans are "smooth," and that descriptive words, or thoughts regarding individuals, can "slip" off them. This appears to imply that Americans are not ready to see past the self-evident; don't look further into a thought.

write 2 to 3 sentences explaining how the introduction of the ghost in act 1 of hamlet helps draw the audience into the play
kogti [31]
The appearance of the ghost helps create an eerie mood and grabs the audience's attention. The ghost does not speak, which adds mystery and suspense. An audience would probably want to know more about why the ghost is there and what it will do. Should be right :)

In the Odyssey, gods such as Jove, Minerva, and Neptune get involved in the mortals’ affairs. What do you think it would be like
scZoUnD [109]

It would be perpetual chaos if if gods really intervened in human affairs as they do in the Odyssey; because gods just as they are painted in books as Odyssey, have human characteristics and become involved in human quarrels . They manipulate, they lie, they covet, with the addition of having special powers who can destroy and change entire cities. They also would intervene without the same notion of consequences as humans have.  Life would change for worse.

For example, in Odyssey passage:

<em>" And Jove said, ‘My child, what are you talking about? </em>

<em>How can I forget Ulysses than whom there is no more capable </em>

<em>man on earth, nor more liberal in his offerings to the </em>

<em>immortal gods that live in heaven? Bear in mind, however, </em>

<em>that Neptune is still furious with Ulysses for having blinded </em>

<em>an eye of Polyphemus king of the Cyclopes. Polyphemus </em>

<em>is son to Neptune by the nymph Thoosa, daughter to the </em>

<em>sea-king Phorcys; therefore though he will not kill Ulysses </em>

<em>outright, he torments him by preventing him from getting </em>

<em>home. Still, let us lay our heads together and see how we can </em>

<em>help him to return; Neptune will then be pacified, for if we </em>

<em>are all of a mind he can hardly stand out against us.'"</em>

Jen reads the following passage: Traveling far above the city of Cleveland, Ohio, on a road that seemed to touch the sky, I jump
Talja [164]

Answer:

The correct answer is:

b. Interpreting

Explanation:

In this case Jen is interpreting what is happening in the story, due to the fact that she is gathering all the given information and taking it into account, she infers what a possible event can be. The idea of interpretation is that the reader can be able to analyze the clues given in the story and draw a conclusion.

It would be also possible to think that Jen is reading and responding, nevertheless, this would not be a correct choice since this process occurs before and after reading, when the reader predisposes the thoughts and wonders about the text; and at the end, compares it with the reaction about the story.
