Nonfoliated metamorphic rocks are produced around igneous invasions where the temperatures are high but the pressures are comparatively low and equal in all directions. Non-foliated metamorphic rocks such as hornfels, quartz, quartzite, and novaculite do not have a layered or banded surface.
