From Great Expectations by Charles Dickens,The word "likeness" in line 6 most nearly means __________. A. friendship B. kindness

C. picture D. substance

Substance is incorrect. What they meant to type was 'evidence' instead of substance. The word likeness and substance have no correlation to each other. The answer is evidence. "...I never saw my father or my mother, and never saw any likeness of either of them..." Great Expectations by Charles Dickens.

I hope that this has cleared up any confusion.

Rana said to her, "I shall follow you" Indirect speech?
IgorC [24]

Answer:

Rana told her that she will follow her.

Explanation:

Changing a speech from the direct to the indirect form requires certain changes to the sentence. This includes removing the quotation marks/ speech marks, then replacing the pronouns as required. Moreover, the tense of the speech will depend on the frame of the sentence.

In the given direct speech, the "I" refers to Rana, and the "you" in her speech means the girl she's talking to. Thus, the indirect speech for the given sentence will be-

Rana told her that she will follow her.

We change the "shall" of the speech because shall is used for first-person whereas in the indirect speech, the I becomes "she" as it refers to Rana.

Thus, the correct sentence is

Rana told her she will follow her.
