During his reign, Justinian was well known for his attempts to restore the power of the roman empire. He managed to reconquer a large portion of the extinct West Roman Empire. As he reclaimed more and more territories to the empire, the empire's annual revenue was increased by over a million solidi ( each coin was made of 326.6g of pure gold).

He also built the Hagia Sophia, the largest building ever made until that date, and it has been said that it "changed the history of architecture".

Justinian was responsible for ensuring a constant water supply for Constantinople, through the construction of several underground cisterns. He built the great Sangarius Bridge, restored several cities damaged during the war and even built a new city called Justiniana Prima.
