USA  refrains from military intervention, in a bid to avert a third world war

 there has been a series of conflicts after the great war in Iran, Guatemala,Hungary and Egypt. in the wake of simmering conflict between the soviet union and other western powers, the USA has limited its intervention to moral support for the affected areas e.g in Hungary and refused to interfere in the Egyptian Suez canal crisis, despite the containment policy guidelines.
