In 1966, Mao Zedong launched the Cultural Revolution in China. It is done as a response to new Economic policies that threatened social equality (D).

EXPLANATION

Mao Zedong was a great Chinese leader who had an idea of the Chinese Cultural Revolution. After seventeen years of his army seizing power, Mao saw a new political campaign to revive the communist revolution by reinforcing communist ideology and then eliminating enemies. "Our aim to fight against and destroy those in power who take the c a p i t a l i s t path. This is done to facilitate the consolidation and development of socialists." Quoted from a journal.

A book writer in that period named Frank D i k ö t t e r said that Mao wished his movement would make China the centre of the socialist universe and make it the leader of planet Earth using communism. The effort was an attempt by an old dictator, whose authority had been seriously affected by the Great Hunger of the 1950s. For the sake of reaffirming the party's power by eliminating the enemy."

The correct answer is D) economic policies that threatened social equality.

In 1966, Mao Zedong launched the Cultural Revolution in China in response to new economic policies that threatened social equality.

Mao Zedong called the young people of China to clean the country of the bad elements in government and to rekindle the revolutionary spirit that brought Communism to China. He considered that the leaders of the Communist party and some officials had deviated from the Communist nature that put them in power. The young people and students formed the "Red Guards." who violently attacked older members of the Party.
