Answer:

The relative method for dating the age of rocks and fossils helps to date the rocks and fossils by determining the approximate age for the fossil or rock by comparing it to something whose age is already known like similar rocks and fossils. In fact, there are certain rocks and fossils which serve as index fossils for comparison.

Absolute dating method tends to determine a precise age of rocks and fossils by radiometric dating of the isotopes of the rocks and fossils.

Sample Response:

In the lab, I used the law of superposition, the principle of cross-cutting relationships, and index fossils to determine the relative ages of rock layers. Then, I used a mass spectrometer to find the age and identity of an unknown fossil. I learned that radioactive decay can help scientists figure out the age of rocks and minerals. I also learned that dating rock layers and the geologic time scale can help us understand Earth’s history by identifying what was happening to Earth and what lived on Earth when the rock layers were formed.

Answer:

a. Genetic drift

Explanation:

 • When there is a change in the frequency of genes in a small population due to chance event as a result of which a few alleles disappear from the population, is known as genetic drift.
 • In the given situation, the population size is small i.e. 25 and 40 respectively and in both these populations, it can be seen that one of the population only has allele A whereas the other has allele a, and because of this it can be concluded that this situation must have arisen due to genetic drift.
 • The populations got established due to random sampling and then the progenies inherited only the alleles of the organism that reproduced and thus, the frequency of the other allele decreased and this is merely a chance event.

Read the passage "Easter Island Palm." Choose the answer below that best fits the problem on Easter Island.

EASTER ISLAND PALM

In the 1400s, the Easter Island palm became extinct due to overharvesting. Reproduction was nearly impossible because islanders introduced rats when they first arrived. These rats ate the Easter Island palm seeds, preventing the Easter Island palm from flourishing. With the disappearance of the palm, the islanders could no longer build the boats they needed for fishing.

does the process of fossilization still occur today or was it limited to earths geologic past? explain
yarga [219]
I believe the process of fossilization still occurs today. The reason being why we find fossils is because of the overlaying of earth's substances over the fossil, and with the right combination, lead to fossils. It would still occur today, let's say you've buried a dog, and over time water, smelted rock, and a few other earth materials came over the dead dog's body. It would most likely be fossilized at the end of this process, but it would take years for it to happen. Fossilization does not happen in one day.
