What inference can be drawn about the bank clerk's emotional state in this excerpt?
grigory [225]

The question above does not present the text to which it refers. This makes it impossible for me to show you an answer. However, I will show you how you can find the answer you need.

First, you will need to read the text to which the question refers. This reading will be able to show you how the bank clerk is behaving, his thoughts, and the emotions he is expressing. This will be able to show you the emotional state of that character.

This because:

  • Emotional state refers to how the character is mentally.
  • This state is revealed through the behavior and the way the character is expressing his feelings.

Thus, if the bank clerk is acting calmly and expressing feelings that reflect this tranquility, it is because he is in a calm emotional state.

Otherwise, if the character is sad, expressing anger, or any other negative feeling, it means he is in an equally negative emotional state. Likewise, if he displays happy behaviors, expresses joy, love, and any happy feelings, it means he is happy and positive.

Narrator's Views in Homesick
Lady_Fox [76]

The work is divided into three sections. Home is where the Heartache Lives deals with a childhood spent witnessing an acrimonious arranged marriage. You Can’t Go Home Again covers the twenty years the narrator spent living in British Columbia while attempting to maintain a distance from the immediate family. Homesick details the narrator’s return to Toronto. Themes of home, language and cultural identity are explored alongside the experience of what it means to witness a devastating disease like schizophrenia and what it feels like to endure a chronically ill family membe

Reaching the gate, Odysseus and the forester
Maslowich
This excerpt probably should have included the verse following it, which is "Here is Odysseus' hall, no hall like this!" So they are standing at the gate at the home of Odysseus.

He has in fact made a long journey home, so B could be correct. The journey did require patience and endurance, so A could be correct. But I would go with D, happiness upon returning home.

A reasonable argument could be made for all of the above. Symbolism can be subjective, and each reader may interpret things differently.
