China was full of drug addicts of Opium and China was known as the "Country of Sick Men."
Because of the bad effects on China, it outlawed Opium. In 1839, England went to war with China because it was upset that China shut down its drug trafficking racket and took their drugs.

The Opium Wars were a series of wars between Chine and Great Britain. It started when Chine started to refuse the shipments of Opium.
