In my opinion, the correct answer is B. People were deemed suitable by passing civil service exams. The Ming dynasty improved this system, which had existed before them as well, and the Qing dynasty just preserved it. These imperial exams were infamous for their difficulty and rigorous conditions which were introduced to prevent any kind of cheating. They were one of the elements that held together one of the most complex bureaucracies in the world for so many centuries. On the other hand, they were criticized for creating an army of obedient placeholders who would never dare to think for themselves.

Based on the four excerpts, how would you describe the young men who signed up to join the Revolutionary Army
Brrunno [24]

The young people who enlisted were people who were hopeful and willing to fight for the greater good.

We can arrive at this answer because:

 • The Revolutionary Army was the army formed in America to fight the British army during the American Revolution.
 • The men who enlisted were of different ages, but many of them were very young, under 20 years of age.
 • During enlistment, they were hopeful and willing to fight, as they believed that this was their duty and that it would bring great honor and benefits.

They believed they were enlisting in pursuit of a greater good, which was greater than any fear or doubt.
