4/5-3/7. First they need the same denominater: 4/5(7)=28/35, 3/7(5)=15/35. 28/35-15/35. Now subtract numerators: 28-15=13. So your answer H. 13/35 :)

Since you can't subtract fractions with different denominators, you have to change it to 35 because that is their common denominator. 4/5 would be changed to 28/35 and 3/7 would be changed to 15/35. (If u r still confused on how u get o that let me know and I can explain). Next u just subtract the fractions and the answer is 13/35 yards (H)

You are making a cover for the rectangular sofa cushion. How much fabric do you need to cover the entire cushion?
worty [1.4K]

Answer:

Measure the height of the cushion if you are covering a box cushion. Multiply the width of the cushion by two and the depth of the cushion by two, and add those numbers together to figure out how much fabric you will need to make the sides, front and back of the box cushion. Add 2 inches for seam allowances.

Convert the Cartesian equation (x 2 + y 2)2 = 4(x 2 - y 2) to a polar equation.
SashulF [63]

<u>ANSWER</u>

{r}^{2}  = 4  \cos2\theta

<u>EXPLANATION</u>

The Cartesian equation is

{( {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2} )}^{2}  = 4( {x}^{2} -  {y}^{2}  )

We substitute

x = r \cos( \theta)

y = r \sin( \theta)

and

{x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2}  =  {r}^{2}

This implies that

{( {r}^{2} )}^{2}  = 4(( { r \cos\theta)  }^{2} -  {(r \sin\theta) }^{2}  )

Let us evaluate the exponents to get:

{r}^{4}  = 4({  {r}^{2} \cos^{2}\theta } -   {r}^{2}  \sin^{2}\theta)

Factor the RHS to get:

{r}^{4}  = 4{r}^{2} ({   \cos^{2}\theta } -   \sin^{2}\theta)

Divide through by r²

{r}^{2}  = 4 ({   \cos^{2}\theta } -   \sin^{2}\theta)

Apply the double angle identity

\cos^{2}\theta -\sin^{2}\theta=  \cos(2 \theta)

The polar equation then becomes:

{r}^{2}  = 4  \cos2\theta
