Perpendicular lines have opposite, reciprocal slopes. I'll show you 2 ways to solve.

y - (-4) = (-1/2)(x - 8)
y + 4 = (-1/2)x + 4
y = (-1/2)x

orrrr...

-4 = (-1/2)(8) + b
-4 = -4 + b
b = 0

Well, we don't write "+ 0" because that's just extra work.

y = (-1/2)x

Note if you see an equation like this, know that b (our y-intercept) is 0. If you see something like y = 7, then the slope is 0, but 0 times our x-value would equal 0 and that's also unnecessary.

5. A packet of razors and a bar of soap cost £5.50. If the soap costs £2.50 less than the razors, find the cost of each.
alex41 [277]
Let the cost of soap be x,
cost of razors = x + 2.5
total cost = 2x + 2.5
2x + 2.5 = 5.5
2x = 3
x = 1.5
cost of razors = 1.5 + 2.5
= 4

The cost of the packet of razors and bar of soap is £4.00 and £1.50 respectively.

Please help me with this problem in the picture, its about trigonometry.
serious [3.7K]

Answer:

  • Yes, vector u and vector v are equivalent vectors.

Step-by-step explanation:

The value of a vector is the difference between its terminal point and its initial point:

  u = P2 -P1 = (6-8, 5-3) = (-2, 2)

  v = P4 -P3 = (9-11, 10-8) = (-2, 2)

Vectors u and v are both (-2, 2), so are equivalent vectors.
