When Kai puts the cheese on the hamburger, it begins to melt because of conduction. The hamburger already has heat inside of it so when the cheese touches the hamburger, heat transfers from the hamburger to the cheese through conduction.

 The piece of cheese melts when it’s placed on the hamburger because conduction occurs. The hamburger is warmer than the cheese, so thermal energy is transferred from the hamburger to the cheese, causing it to melt.

Approximately how much heat energy does it take to raise 1 kg of water by 1 k?
Sidana [21]

Answer:

4186 Joules

Explanation:

The specific heat capacity of a substance is defined as the amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of 1 kg of the substance by 1 Kelvin. In formula,

C_s = \frac{Q}{m \Delta T}

where

Q is the amiunt of heat needed

m = 1 kg is the mass

\Delta T = 1 K

is the variation of temperature of the substance

For water, the specific heat capacity is 4186 J/(kg K). This means that the heat energy required to raise 1 kg of water by 1 K is exactly 4186 J.
