The World War II was a reminder for many blacks of the inequality of American society, and a black soldier said, "Just carve on my tombstone, "Here Lies a black man, killed fighting a yellow man for the protection of a white man." There were changes to America's economy as well during and after the war, and in particular, the war time boom. The biggest contributor to the victory in the WWII was industry, and industries that had been inactive were now "humming with activity". Many factories were converted make war vehicles; such as tanks and flamers, and the Willow Run Factory was able to produce one B-24 bomber every hour. The prosperity went all through America's society, and government spending rose dramatically from $9billion in 1940 to $98billion in 1944. Wages increased hugely all over the country from rich to poor. Also, big businesses, especially those involved in the defence industry, became much more powerful, and surprisingly, military spending remained between 8 and 20 percent of GNP in the 40 years after 1945.

What is ironic about the following passage from narrative of the life of fredrick Douglass in 1832
WINSTONCH [101]

Answer: His master is crueler after finding religion than he was before.

Explanation:

Douglas considered his master as a cruel man. His master once went out for a christian camp meeting and in the course of the meeting, he surrendered his life to Christ. Due to this, Douglass hoped that this religious transformation would result in his master being less cruel toward his slaves, and this didn't turn out to be the case, rather the master became more cruel.

This is an irony, because Douglass experienced the opposite of his expectation. An irony is the expression of one's meaning by the use of language which normally signifies the opposite, usually for emphatic or humorous effect.

What was the holocaust?<br>What did the nuremberg laws do?
devlian [24]

Answer:

Explanation:

In 1935 Hitler had 2 laws passed that accomplished the following.

  • Jews were deprived of their German citizenship and
  • German purity (blood) was protected by forbidding Jews from Marrying German Citizens. Any sexual relations between the races was also prohibited.
  • These two laws were the Nuremberg Laws.

The Holocaust was the attempt by Hitler and the German Nazi Party to murder every Jew (in the world if they got that far) but certainly in Europe. They diminished the Jewish population in Europe by 1/2 killing 6 million of them -- a number I find incomprehensible and an act even more incomprehensible.

I urge you to search out the word Holocaust. The German Holocaust was not the only one. There were quite a few even after world war II. You would think that the one in Europe would have been enough. It certainly wasn't.

nikdorinn [45]
The act was about ensuring people have voting rights and preventing states from preventing voting rights in various ways such as having literacy tests or voting taxes or anything similar. One effect can be that it enabled for all people to vote regardless of color or origin, and another is that it enabled minorities and immigrants to vote too because it enabled minorities who didn't know English that well to vote using bilingual ballots.
