Subinfeudation, which is the agreement between a knight and a vassal to have the knight become a sub-vassal to a vassal giving him a share of the vassal's land.
Subinfeudation in the feudal system, is a practice by which tenants received a land grant from the king or other lords, and by becoming the lord himself he (tenant) gives a part of his granted land to the others. In one way, this practice of subinfeudation can be looked at as a layering of responsibility.
