The correct answer to this question is alternative B) "civilian efforts to aid the  war effort in practical ways."

During war, trade is compromised, and the priority for the food supply produced by farmers is the troops, which can cause shortages for civilians. On top of that, attacks on farm lands as well as casualties caused by the war in work forces, also deepen food shortages.

Home Gardens help families provide food for themselves, in a way they depend less on the crops that have been compromised by war. It helps them overcome food shortages.

I would say 'civilian efforts to aid the war effort...' as farm production would primarily go to the military leading in food shortages elsewhere. Growing food at home will lessen shortages for that family, and allow them to trade or sell the excess.

Why did European explorers seek a Northeast Passage and how successful were their efforts?
lakkis [162]

Answer:

Since Columbus discovered America in 1492 many European sailors tried to reach Asia by sailing towards the west and that is why one of their goal was to reach it by sailing towards the North. They weren't successful at the beginning because the weather condition and the conditions of sailing were bad and they weren't able to reach Asia through that route until 1906 when Roald Amundsen somehow managed to navigate this route.

Explanation:

Among the first Europeans who tried to find this passage were famous explorers, including John Cabot and Jack Cartier, but they both failed. It just proved the fact that it was practically impossible at the time to use this route.
