Explanation:

In the passage above, the writer is speaking about Mark Twain´s life and upbringing, up to the point when he became a renowned humorist. You can tell the tone is factual because the passage speaks only of events in the life of Twain that can be corroborated and that objectively happened to him.  

The word “sketch” above means: a piece of writing, that is to say, a brief text that paints a complete picture in outline, metaphorically speaking.  

And, the best way to describe the language in the passage, following the explanation provided before, is: objective language.
