An engine’s lower end, sometimes called the bottom end, contains the engine block, the cylinders, the piston, the connecting rods, and the crankshaft assemblies. The basic function of the lower end components is to convert the up-and-down motion of the pistons into rotary motion that can be used to power a vehicle.
