America, at this point in the war, was essentially looking for a way to get it over with, and they were also aching to show off their military strength and capability to other countries. By dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, America showed the world that it was a force to be reckoned with, and the levels that it would go to to ‘protect’ its national image and patriotistic ideals.
