In a narrative, the setting is the time and location which can be fiction or non-fiction. It is seen as the location of an action.  It tells the time, duration and place of a particular story.

There are different ways place and time demonstrates setting in a story.

Time in a story can actually means many things; it can be time of the day, time of year, and time period. Time period can be present, past or future. Place in a story could mean a particular building, country, city; room in a building, etc. place in a story could also be a mode of transportation which could be car, bus, boat etc. In a story, the setting can change throughout the plot.  

All the stories of this world have certain things in common. Some stories have a common literary tactics so that the reader can find the story worthy to read. Setting is very important in a story. Knowing the fundamental element of setting would help a fiction writer to create an imaginary world for a story.
