Yellow journalism is what it's called when newspapers greatly exaggerate things within their articles, in order to sell papers.

Yellow journalism was mostly used because it resonated with people. It played off of their emotions, and confirmed their own biased opinions. And people love being told that they're right. So people bought these "yellow newspapers" if you will, and so those newspapers sold more copies.

Pulitzer and Hearst were two competing rivals in the newspaper publishing business, both based out of New York. They both heavily used yellow journalism in order to sell their papers.

Yes, I believe that it's true. Yellow journalism is, in a way, still used today. News sources are run by people, and people are biased. Sometimes, their bias shows up in their published work accidentally or sometimes intentionally, in order to attract like-minded readers and convince those readers to buy and circulate their articles.
