Distance travelled in heavy traffic = 40*1 = 40 miles

Answer:

140 miles

Step-by-step explanation:

Hello

Speed is a physical quantity that expresses the relationship between the space traveled by an object, the time taken for it and its direction,and can be calculate with this equation

(1)v=\frac{d}{t}

where, d is the distance traveled and t is the time it takes

Now, we have 2 speeds , 40 mph and 60 mph

isolating d from (1)

d=v*t

step 1

find the distance he traveled in light traffic

t=2 hour

v=40 mph

d=v*t

d=40 mph  * 2 hours

d=80 miles

step 2

find the distance he traveled in heavy traffic

t=1 hour

v=60 mph

d=v*t

d=60 mph  *1hour

d=60 miles

Step 3

add the distances to find the total

D=d1+d2=80 miles +60 miles

D=140 miles

Have a great day
