Bonjour,

L'église que vous avez <em>vue </em>a été construite au XVIe siècle.

( the direct object is before the verb, so the past participle has to agree with it.)

Bonjour

<u>L'église</u> que vous avez <u>vu</u><u>e</u> a été construite au XIVe siècle.

<em>Rule passé composé avec "avoir"</em>

le participe passé ne s'accorde jamais avec le sujet

<em>ex : </em>vous avez vu l'église

      elle a vu l'église

       il a vu l'église

<u>BUT</u> === EXCEPTION

<em>if the direct object is BEFORE the verb, then the p. participle will agree with it.... same with direct object pronouns ......</em>

ex = l'église que vous aves vue .........................

       vous avez vu "quoi" ==> l'église --> the direct object is before the passé composé , so the P. passé agrees with the direct object

ex = Ils ont mangé une tarte aux pommes

BUT =<u> </u><u> La tarte</u> aux pommes qu'ils ont mangée

ex = Il a vu Claire, son amie  (<em>fem. noun)  ==> </em>il l'a vue

       Il a vu ses amis           <em>(plural noun) </em> ===> il les a vus

<em>each time the  direct object of the past tense with "avoir" is before, this p. participle will agree with it ....</em>

<em>If the direct object is behind, then the Participe passé est invariable.</em>

<em>Exception with "en'" == > it doesn't agree</em>

I tried to explain as much as I could ............... hope this will help you ...
