On page 18, Tarshis writes, “There is not even a word for volcano in Latin.” What purpose does this detail serve?
Tems11 [23]

Answer: since this has been here for 5 hours, it requires an answer. When Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 A.D., is was given the Title Magna Ignius”, or “The Great Fire”, and there were assorted similar names. Each mountain that “exploded into fire” was given its own name; With this detail, one can infer that at that time, the Romans had a limited understanding of Geology, and did not give these “mountains” A common name, like our “Volcano”. That is the purpose served.

Read the following lines by Calpurnia. Then answer the question that follows.
Rina8888 [55]

The line "Blood drizzling on the Capitol" is symbolic.

What does this passage symbolize?

 • Deaths.
 • Violence.
 • Brutality.
 • Suffering.

In the literature, the use of symbols is very common, as authors use them to represent larger and broader concepts that would be tedious to explain literally in the text. In this case, the authors seek simple and more subjective terms to represent these concepts to the reader in a more attractive way.

In the text indicated in the question above, the sentence "Blood drizzling on the Capitol" is used to symbolize a scenario of barbarism, extreme violence, and very aggressive killings.

What is the correct way to use quotation marks when quoting passages of more than one paragraph?
irga5000 [103]
The correct answer is C.Use quotation marks at the beginnings of all paragraphs, and at the end of the last paragraph only.

That is done so as to show when new paragraphs and thoughts begin. It is not necessary to close them all down as you can only close the last one down and it is enough.
