Why is phosphorous referred as a local cycle?

Biology

The phosphorous cycle is referred to as a local cycle because it involves an element with no mechanism for long distance transfer. Phosphorous cannot be found in the air in the gaseous state because it is usually a liquid at standard temperature and pressure and is thus limited in being recycled through water, soil and sediments. However very small particles in the air may contain phosphorous or its compounds. The phosphorous cycle is the slowest one of the sedimentary cycles.

Hey there! :)

During a lab investigation containing liquids of any kind, you should always test the odor by waving your hand over the top of an open container and sniffing cautiously. This is called wafting, and should always be used in the case that a harmful chemical is being tested.

Almost all cacti are native to the Americas, but there is a small, relatively uncommon group of plants closely related to cacti
Iteru [2.4K]

Answer:

C) The continents were once connected.

Explanation:

All the continents were once part of the super-continent called Pangaea. Continental drift split it into fragments and led to the formation of the present-day continents. Since all the continents were connected, some of the cacti native to tropical western Africa must have been carried to present-day America.

The cacti populations present in America and tropical western Africa accumulated genetic variations to get adapted to the prevailing environmental conditions. Separation of continents by continental drift led to their geographical isolation and prevented any interbreeding between the populations. Over generations, the cacti present in two continents evolved into separate species.
