The Allied Powers of World War Two, led by the U.S. occupied Japan. Soviet Union had little influence. The occupation, codenamed Operation Blacklist, ended by the San Francisco Peace Treaty, signed on September 8, 1951. Before, on August 15, 1945, Japan had surrendered to the allied powers.

When the peace treaty was signed, (it was effective from April 28, 1952) Japan had recognized Korea’s independence, and renounced all rights to Taiwan, the Pescadores, the Kurils, and southern Sakhalin. It also made Japan give up the rights to the Pacific islands. It started a relationship with Japan and The United States, Normal diplomatic relations were reestablished in 1952. Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security between Japan and the United States was signed in 1960.

They also provided food and other natural human needs to help Japan survive, Japan became a trade partner to the U.S. and is an important one. It ensured the relations, and the two countries enjoy relations together. They are very strong allies.
