The Cult of True Womanhood was also known as the Cult of True Domesticity was a value system in the dominants Upper and middle classes of America and England in the 19th century. The system provided values for Women such as Purity, Piety, Submission, and domesticity, but excluded African American women, immigrants, and the working class. The idea of True Womanhood that dictated the role of women in the 1800s was that married women had to obey their husbands and stayed at home to raise children.
