A motif is an idea, object, or concept that repeats itself throughout a text. Or in other words, a motif consists of a recurrent idea or object that the author uses not to reinforce ideas in a text but also to give readers clues about its theme or central idea.
When such motive gathers larger significance throughout a text it may become a pattern of symbols that reinforce the theme of a given text.
