It is often argued that progressive reform lost momentum in the 1920s mainly because of the Great Depression, which hit in 1929 and was caused by many of the things the Progressives sought to eliminate. In this sense this statement is true.

How did the issue of slavery affect the debate on representation at the Constitutional Convention?
solniwko [45]

Slavery was a hotly debated topic at the Constitutional Convention. On one hand, Southern states wanted slaves to count towards population. This would increase the amount of representatives the Southern states had in the House of Representatives.

On the other hand, the South did not want slaves to count towards the population because this would result in the Southern states paying more direct taxes to the federal government.

The North felt the opposite than the South. Nonetheless, this issue was solved by the 3/5ths Compromise. This compromise stated that every 5 slaves would count as 3 people towards a states population for both representation and taxation.

One of the most significant differences between the articles of confederation and the constitution was
Inessa05 [86]
The most important difference was that the Articles of Confederation gave very little power to a central government while the Constitution created a strong central government.

Other major differences include:

Articles of Confederation:
- no Bill of Rights
- gov't has no power to collect tax
- to make amendment, vote of states had to be unanimous
- no president (executive branch)
- only one "house" in Congress (unicameral)
- states could coin there own $ (so there were multiple currencies)
- Congress had between 2 and 7 reps per state
- representatives in Congress were appointed by state legislature (no popular vote)

U.S. Constitution:
- Bill of Rights
- gov't can collect tax
- amendment needs 3/4 vote
- has an executive branch
- two houses in Congress (bicameral)
- only U.S. gov't can coin $ (one currency for nation)
- Congress has 2 senators per state and representatives depending on the size of the state's population
- senators appointed, but representatives elected through popular vote

Why is Louis Armstrong considered a jazz legend?
aalyn [17]
I don't know much about this, but I know it is definitely not A (he is not white). I also disagree with C, and I don't D is correct, so I would say that Louis Armstrong is considered jazz legend for his ability to play the trumpet and subtle sense of improvisation.
