Read the excerpt from The Odyssey. My heart beat high now at the chance of action, and drawing the sharp sword from my hip I wen

t along his flank to stab him where the midriff holds the liver. I had touched the spot when sudden fear stayed me: if I killed him we perished there as well, for we could never move his ponderous doorway slab aside. So we were left to groan and wait for morning. What prevents Odysseus from killing the sleeping Cyclops? He thinks he can reason with the Cyclops in the morning. He wants to make the Cyclops his ally and friend. He knows that they cannot move the boulder blocking the doorway. He feels sorry for the Cyclops who lives all by himself.

Answer:

What prevents Odysseus from killing the sleeping Cyclops is:

C. He knows that they cannot move the boulder blocking the doorway.

Explanation:

Odysseus is the hero in the epic poem "The Odyssey", by Homer. At a certain point, he and his men end up trapped in a land filled with Cyclopes, one-eyed giants who eat men. Odysseus has the chance to kill the Cyclops who keeps him and his men hostage, but he realizes he cannot do it:

"[...] if I killed him we perished there as well, for we could never move his ponderous doorway slab aside."

A slab is a large and heavy piece of concrete or stone. Odysseus knows that, if he kills the Cyclops, they will all die since they cannot escape. He and his men do not have the strength or the means to move the boulder aside and free the way out.

After his spear is broken, what does Don Quixote use as a replacement? a. Sancho Panza’s spear c. A flask of wine b. Sancho Panz
Sholpan [36]

When thinking about the novel, Don Quixote, it is important to remember that the text is supposed to be a comedy. As such, when thinking about answers to questions, what might appear as silly and absurd with regard to an action by Don Quixote, in his world, it might just make sense. With that in mind we know that he broke his lance “fighting” a windmill, yet the windmill made sense to him as an opponent. In looking at the possible responses to this question, a spear and a cane, actually make sense, yet too much sense to one who just fought a windmill. A flask would make no sense even to Don Quixote; however, the branch of a tree fits right in perfectly into his world. Thus, with that in mind, it can safely be understood (and make sense) that a tree branch was what Don Quixote used as a replacement for his spear.
