Before united states entered the world war ii, our presidents has always adopted an isolationist approach in their foreign policies.  (we won't provide any assistance if other countries involved in the conflict).

This all change after world war ii (around 1940s) . Since than, presidents of united states started to take active approaches in building relationship with other countries.
