Phillip II was the son of Charles V and became king of Spain and all its colonies. During Phillip’s reign, it was considered the peak of Spain’s Golden Age. He is considered a Patron of the Arts, he commissioned lots of painting of himself and others, he built the Escorial Monastery that was known as a world wonder at the time. The Prado Museum was also founded, artists were attracted such as Titan, Anthonis Mor, El Greco, Pompeo, and others. This made Spanish arts become international.

Philip II was born on May 21, 1527. He reigned as King of Spain from 1556 to 1598, as King of Portugal from 1581–98, became King of Naples and Sicily in 1554, and as jure uxoris King of England and Ireland because of his marriage to Queen Mary I. Not enough there, he was also the Duke of Milan and included the king of the Seventeen Province in the Netherlands.

Philip II is the Son of Charles V and Isabella. Philip has the nickname "Felipe el Prudente" or Philip the Wise. The kingdom below covered a large and strategic area on the European continent. During his leadership, the kingdom of Spain reached the peak of its glory. Which came to be called the Spanish Golden Age .

Spanish culture developed very well during the reign of Philip. He left a lasting legacy of literary works, visual arts and music. One of the famous artists during the Phillip II was Sofonisba Anguissola. Anguissola is known for her talent as a female actress. Anguissola also became a special painter for Queen Elizabeth de Valois. During his time as a painter in the palace, Anguissola painted many official portraits of the royal family. Philip died on September 13, 1598.
