The role of the top predator is to maintain the balance between the population of secondary consumers, primary consumers and the producers. The removal of the sea otters, a top predator will lead to the increase in the number of the secondary consumers that include the creatures like the crabs, frogs, fishes, etc. These creatures are also eaten by the gulls and the eagles. This will lead to increase in the number of the gulls and the eagles as they have more food for themselves. The removal of sea otter decreases the competition over food with the gulls and the eagles. This is an indirect benefit to them.

As a cell grows, what happens to its surface area to volume ratio? (hint: think of a balloon being blown up). how does this rati
iren [92.7K]
The surface area to volume ratio of the cell decreases.
This decrease is due to the fact that the volume of the cell increases at a greater rate than the surface surrounding the cell, the cell membrane, increases. This change is also visible when we are blowing up a balloon.

When considering the cell division, the ratio remains roughly the same. It is advantageous for the cell to preserve its surface area to volume ratio, since a higher ratio means that substances are able to diffuse into and out of the cell at a fairly higher rate.
