The novel begins with Janie telling her dear friend, Pheoby, about what has happened in the years since she left Eatonville, along with reflections of her childhood. As the story proceeds chronologically, however, the story is not a first-person narrative. Hurston takes over the narrative with the use of third-person point of view. The reader encounters Janie's experiences as Janie faced them, yet Hurston controls the story.

What evidence from the text best supports the theme that society places limits on the roles of women?
lesya692 [45]

Answer:

“I took my charming little Capri maiden . . . on my arm.”

Explanation:

This excerpt from the text above shows that women were considered as weaker or precious vessels to be treasured and doted upon. Helmer, the man in this excerpt carried the maiden whom he described as charming and little into his arms.

The limit placed on women was that of not being expected to strain themselves or engage in anything hurtful. That was why Helmer doted on the lady who had danced her Tarantella so well.

Summarize identify griffins claim, or central idea, and delineate the key idea of his argument
KATRIN_1 [288]

Answer:

Griffins claim that certain 'informed desires'may rank higher because they contain some key self interest values with irreplaceable significance in one's life.

Explanation:

Griffins idea of 'informed need' does not deny the importance of basic needs. He states that basic need are not absolute. Meaning that they do not always take priority over everything else.

Therefore Griffins suggested a solution to introduce greater flexibility to the basic needs account. Griffins believes that the rigidity of the basic needs account lies precisely in the fact that it excludes the 'objective list' of basic needs certain values that maybe more urgent or important in a particular case.
