Answer: 4 ( 9 - c ) = 2 ( 9 + c )

Step-by-step explanation:

Since, Distance = Speed × Time

Here c represents the speed of current,

Thus, if the boat has the speed of 9 mph in still water,

Then its speed in upstream = ( 9 - c ) mph

Also, It takes the boat 4 hours to travel upstream.

Hence, total distance in upstream = 4 ( 9 - c )

Similarly its speed in downstream = ( 9 + c ) mph

Also, It takes the boat 2 hours to travel downstream.

Hence, total distance in downstream = 2 ( 9 + c )

Since, the distance in upstream and downstream is equal.

⇒ 4 ( 9 - c ) = 2 ( 9 + c )

Which is the required equation for finding the speed of current c..

D=4(9-c) and d=2(9+c)

d=36-4c and d=18+2c

Since d=d

18+2c=36-4c  add 4c to both sides

18+6c=36  subtract 18 from both sides

6c=18  divide both sides by 6

c=3

So the speed of the current is 3mph

olchik [2.2K]

Answer:

10 visors

Step-by-step explanation:

Make an equation

Each visor, v costs $6, and there is a $5 fee regardless of the amount of visors purchased. This must be equal to $65

6v+5=65

Now, solve for v

Subtract 5 from both sides

6v=60

Divide both sides by 6

v=10

You can buy 10 visors

Consider the line y=1 x -1 and the point P=(2,0).
Montano1993 [528]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

d(x)=√((x-2)2+(y-0)²)

=√((x-2)²+y²)

=√((x-2)²+(x-1)²)

=√(x²-4x+4+x²-2x+1)

=√(2x²-6x+5)

D=d²(x)=2x²-6x+5

b.\\\frac{dD}{dx}=4x-6\\\frac{dD}{dx}=0,gives \\4x-6=0\\x=\frac{3}{2}\\\frac{d^2D}{dx^2}=4 >0 at x=\frac{3}{2}\\so~D~or~d^2~or~d~is~minimum~at~x=\frac{3}{2}\\so~y=1(\frac{3}{2} )-1=1/2=0.5\\so~nearest~point~is~(1.5,0.5)

Leokris [45]

Answer:

480 people

Step-by-step explanation:

Set up an equation where x is the number of people surveyed:

180 = (x)(0.375)

Solve for x:

180 = (x)(0.375)

480 = x

So, Annette surveyed 480 people
