Double-declining-balance rate:

By straight-line method, annual depreciation expenses  = (85,000-5,000)/5 = $16,000

Rate of depreciation = 16000/(85,000-5,000) = 0.2 = 20%

Then, double-declining-balance rate = 2*Straight-line rate = 2*20 = 40%

From 2nd January 2017 to 31st December 2018 can be approximated as 1 year.
Therefore,
Depreciation expense in yr 1 = 40/100 * 85,000 = $34,000

And,
Book value at December 31 2018 = $85,000 - $34,000 = $51,000

It can be seen that the correct answer is b.

Rus_ich [418]

Answer:

$27,400 and $59,600

Explanation:

The computation of the depreciation expense and the book value using the sum of-the-years'-digits method is shown below:

Depreciation expense is

= (Purchase cost - residual value) × useful life ÷ sum of years

= ($87,000 - $4,800) × 5 years ÷ (5 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1)

= $27,400

And, the book value is

= Purchase cost - depreciation expense

= $87,000 - $27,400

= $59,600

Review stocks and bonds and describe how they differ in regards to corporate financing. Discuss common stock and preferred stock
Fudgin [204]

Explanation:

A preferred stock is a share of ownership in a public company. It has some qualities of a common stock and some of a bond. The price of a share of both preferred and common stock varies with the earnings of the company. Both trade through brokerage firms.

Bond prices, on the other hand, vary with the company's ability to pay. The difference is that preferred stocks pay an agreed-upon dividend at regular intervals. This quality is similar to that of bonds. Common stocks may pay dividends depending on how profitable the company is. Moreover, Prefered stocks dividend are often higher than the common stock.

kykrilka [37]

Explanation:

Insurance underwriters "evaluate the risk and exposures" of potential clients. Clients are the insurance agency where many insurers invest money and claim if the insurer / his family (which ever is applicable) is hospitalized / treated for disease.

If I am a underwriter,

  • I will check the insurance policy which the patient has taken,
  • Check the eligibility, cross check the documents of operation which the patient or insurer has sent
  • Then decide whether the particular reimbursement is approved or unapproved.
